Thumb and Reflection

I wonder which was more instrumental to evolution of human intelligence: the opposing thumb or awareness of self in lake reflections?

Money

money is a catalyst to fulfilling my destiny: more catalyst does not change my destiny, although without the it life may not happen at all

Same but different

Why does asking: "are you the only child?" sound different from "do you have siblings?"... is it the difference along the lines of "regretful apology" instead of "sorry"? English is indeed the language of diplomacy....

happiness...

consciously choosing to be oneself;

consciously, that is having an insight into who "self" is, (often discovered through the pains of trying to be who one is not), as well as having an insight into consequences of making this choice

Insight and feelings

Is it an insight or our emotional response to that insight that defines us? Interesting implications for artificial intelligence.

How human!

A pessimist: indeed...
An optimist: oh well...
A cynic: amusing!
A realist: ironic, but true...

Intelligence and Insight

Intelligence: an insight, emotional or intellectual.

Meaning of life

"Scio ego. Futurus ego."

"Know self. Be self"

The wisdom as old as humanity.

A step beyound:

Know the world. Know self. Be the best of self, whatever that might be in the world around at the time, as tempting as it may be to be all else.

A wicked insight

Philosophy: an intellectual attempt to reconcile absurdity.

Philosophy: a form of psychological masturbation that comes of an urge, feels good, and typically has little practical implication.

An emotional conviction justified by a theory that necessitates a philosophical question.

Accepting that even this observation is emotionally driven, questioning the motifs behind a presented philosophical question and disregarding the theories one glimpses at the most wicked of insights!

Past, present, future

The past is the measure. The present is a chance, occasionally a second one. The future is the hope and may be a reason to be.

Change of mind

I do not want to be mistaken, so I am eager to be proven wrong.

Fear of being wrong

I start with an assumption that I am wrong, and that gives me the freedom to think and be anyway I like: I am wrong in any case, so I might as well have no fear of making a mistake

Value

Inteligence, success, money and other things of perceived value are arbitrary, especially when you have them (04 Oct 09)

Inertia

The street signs read: the dark street "The life you are leading" and the side street with light "The life you could have led"

Turning is harder than it seems - inertia is not to be underestimated

In dubio pro reo

I entertain the benefit of doubt until I start doubting the benefit of doing so

Choices

A child, a greedy person, a blind person, a riteous person and a hungry person were to choose between a real apple and one made of gold.... Our choices certainly define us, but could these people have chosen differently and are they really free choices?

Loved by all

If I was loved by all, I would be understood by none

Prodigal mind

The return of a prodigal mind to heart...

Why is the question

The question is not what is the answer, but why is the question?

Greatness

Greatness is often motivated by less than noble motives

Heart in love

Egg chefs must have taken their cues from a heart in love: sunny side up, sunny side down, hard boiled, soft boiled, poached, scrambled… others. I choose mine sunny side up.

Kindness

Is kindness empathy for a victim or forgiveness of a perpetrator?
